Café Móvel

CafeMovel

Bringing exclusively farmers’ voice wall for the first time

The Café Móvel (meaning Mobile Coffee in Portuguese). This project is a mobile based extension service for the coffee growers. In India, coffee is grown in the hilly regions of southern India and providing real-time and effective extension support to the planters have always been a challenge for the Coffee Board of India. Hence as a pilot Coffee Board has funded CABI to develop this service.

Under Café Móvel, coffee growers will not only be able to listen to the advisories and other important information like market trend, auction price and weather in their local language, but also be able to create discussion thread in their personal “Voice Wall” just like Facebook and get comments and suggestions from fellow farmers as well as experts. They can further share this knowledge among community by “Twitting” these discussion threads.

The project will run as pilot  for one year and in one state southern India i.e. Karnataka and aims to reach about 150K small and medium coffee growers.
